Will's approach to teaching is primarily influenced by his experiences as an educator within the domains of student affairs/development. Given his professional experiences in student affairs, he approaches teaching in a manner that acknowledges the importance of a student’s curricular and co-curricular engagement and holistic development. He regards teaching as an active process that requires intentionality and purpose from the instructor and students—that is, the instructor must make themselves approachable to students with diverse backgrounds. Students must play an active role in their development by seeking guidance, actively participating, and engaging their curiosity in appropriate ways inside and beyond the classroom.
As part of a five-week leadership development program hosted by Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA), Will has provided ~45 hours of instruction related to leadership development (e.g., identity and leadership, civil disobedience, student protests/activism, affirmative action, stakeholder mapping) to two 15-student sections of high-achieving high school students with historically underrepresented identities. His responsibilities also included individualized student support for community engagement projects, student evaluations, facilitating office hours, and designing co-curricular residential-based programs to facilitate student development. He also guided ~60 students working to complete a community impact project.
Will has served in this role for two enrollment terms:

As part of an 8-week, 2-credit course, I taught 16 students who expressed interest in leadership development and the resident assistant role. In addition to instruction, I prepped class materials, graded, evaluated students, and addressed student concerns.
